With summer seemingly here to stay our a steady diet of strokeplay can be too pressured for young golfers so along with the GGU U16s we created a matchplay challenge between our squads
Some last minute illness and changes in availability meant some chopping and changing to the format and pairing with Mal and Sam setting off in a singles match while Douglas and Lucas took on the experienced and Reid Trophy bound Oscar Linton. Our boys continued to find the fairway with Cody and a co opted Tommy Sutherland going next before being followed out by Fergus and Henry an unintimidated Callum and Will.. The matches closed out with Olly and Henry taking on some much longer hitting U16’s before and all CAP match of Sonny, Jack Theo and Nathan
All the matches were fairly tight as they reached the tricky loop from 14 with some of the longer hitters caught out with precision from the shorter players helping themselves to wins on 16 an 17
It did however mean the first and last matches both went down 18 alive but despite their best efforts a win for the U16s’ came via the CAP boys being unable to just overturn the last hole
The spirit and way all the boys went about the matches with lots of chat and congratulations was great credit to them all whatever the result. Huge thanks to Debs, Donard, James and Stinchcombe Hill GC for providing an ideal venue and great food. Also a huge thanks to all the parents for not only getting the boys there but providing such great and much appreciated support
With the season now well under way focus will be on getting into many of the comps and CAP squad coaching session as well as match versus the U14’s at Cirencester before our Jamboree with the GGG squad in the Autumn
